How to Apply

Home Ownership

The Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity builds homes in partnership with qualifying partner families and the community, and then sells the homes at no profit with zero percent interest mortgages.

There are three main requirements that a partner family must meet:

  1. Ability to Pay: Partner families must meet the income guidelines based on their family size and meet the debt-to-income ratios

  2. Willingness to Partner: Partner families are families that are willing to work with the Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity. Requirements include completing a minimum of 300 hours of sweat equity, meeting monthly with a budget coach, attending homeownership preparation classes, and attending credit counseling among other things.

  3. Housing Need: During the application process, our Family Selection Committee will visit applicant families in their homes and determine the need for housing. Need can include overcrowding, physical/structure deficiencies, and/or cost burden.

Program Application Sessions occur twice a year; once in the spring and again in the fall. At the session prospective families will learn more about the program and complete an application which begins the family selection process.
