Williams Family
Dorothy and her three children became a member of the Habitat for Humanity family in April of 2011. Dorothy’s goal is to have her own home. She equates it to the memory of her Grandparents and how their home was always a place for the family to be together. She wants that for her children…to be safe, secure and loved.
Dorothy has a good attitude and strong work ethic and is outgoing. She grew up here in Erie and is the youngest of 8 children: 3 brothers and 4 sisters and loved being the youngest. She has been employed as a Personal Care attendant at Erie Independence House for almost 4 years. She hopes to earn her driver’s license soon. In her spare time, she likes to read and makes really good homemade macaroni cheese.
Dorothy is thrilled to be working toward owning her own home. She is dedicating her time to doing sweat equity hours, attending budget classes and three workshops this fall: “Understanding Insurance”, “Organizing and Cleaning”, and “Tools, Measuring and More”. Dorothy commented that she likes being on the worksite learning all that goes into construction. Her favorite tool has become the miter box!
She shared that the budgeting class has really been helpful and she is learning a lot.
Dorothy’s three children are very excited about moving into a new house. Shahariauna (11) is a fifth grade honor student at Diehl Elementary School. Dance is Shahariauna’s favorite activity. Dorothy’s son Rashaan (7) is a second grader at the Erie Rise Leadership Charter School. Dorothy laughed when she said that like most boys, gym is his favorite class. Younger daughter Kimora (5) is in kindergarten at the same school as her brother in the scholar program. Kimora likes dance like her older sister.
